From One Developer To The Next – 476 Burke Road Camberwell
A Camberwell home built by Barry Humphries’ father has hit the market and is expected to sell for more than $2 million. The house was originally built in 1945, and has been completely transformed by owner Cameron Alderson, the part owner of ‘red.c developments’, a developer of large residential projects.
Set within the esteemed Sunnyside Estate, the home features four bedrooms, formal and in-formal living and dining rooms, rumpus, two bathrooms, two powder rooms, laundry, cellar, and a gourmet kitchen. A large entertainment deck overlooks the leafy garden with swim jet spa.
Humphries, who was born and raised in the same suburb in a “clean, tasteful and modern home”, is best known for his on-stage and television alter egos Dame Edna Everage, and Sir Les Patterson. His father was a successful developer in the area and it is thought that the strictures of conventional suburban life were the driving force behind the funny man rebelling and becoming ‘artistic’, much to the dismay of his parents who, despite their affluence, distrusted art.
